DR. ASHA GANDHI
Dr. Asha Gandhi, former Director Professor and Head in the Department of Physiology at Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi , is presently working as Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary Medical College, Gurugram since 23rd January 2018. She did her MBBS and MD(Physiology) from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. After completion of senior residency in Physiology, she Joined Lady Hardinge Medical College as faculty in 1987. She was promoted the post of Professor in 1995 and Director Professor in 2006 and continuously served the same Institution till her superannuation in September 2017. She had been Head of the Department of Physiology for twelve years nine months. After retirement she joined SGT Medical College as Professor in October 2017.
Dr. Asha Gandhi is a well known academician and outstanding scholar in the field of Physiology. She has been actively involved with teachings of MBBS and MD students. As a member of Board of Studies, courses committee and studies (UG & PG courses) and PhD committee by Delhi University, she was dedicatedly active with development of quality medical education and curriculum. She guided twenty MD thesis to postgraduate students, short term ICMR and KVYP research projects to MBBS students. She was the principal investigator of WHO funded research project entitled "Comparative evaluation study of Integrated Yoga Practices vs. Conventional Medical Treatment for management of Health Disorders" in hospital based patients in the year 1995-1999. She has many publications to her credit in various National and International Journals and has presented a number of papers in National and International conferences. She has been invited as guest speaker in various conferences and workshops on Health, Stress management and Yoga, chairperson for scientific sessions, Judge for best paper awards and review of award papers at many conferences.
Dr. Gandhi has been an Examiner for MBBS, MD, PhD, DNB, BDS examinations at various medical colleges in India. She has been a member of expert committee for selection of faculty posts by various prestigious bodies like : KGMU, RPSC, PGIMS Rohtak, NEIGRIMS, JIPMER Pondicherry, ESIC , MOHFW (MAMC, VMMC, LHMC) , MDNIY under AYUSH, observer by MOHFW for selection of Assistant Professor post by UPSC, subject expert at workshops by DNB; member of expert committee by Human Resource Development Group and Council for selection of Senior Research Associate (SRA- Pool Scientist) at CSIR, member Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) for guiding Research in Yoga and Naturopathy at CCRYN, Janakpuri , New Delhi (under AYUSH), and member outside Expert for PG Board of Studies in Physiology by PGIMER, Rohtak etc.
She has also been Superintendent for MBBS, MD/MS Examination by Delhi University held at LHMC, Observer for Delhi PG entrance examination, member of counselling committee for allotment of seats under All India Quota for MBBS and BDS; and for allotment of superspeciality seats of DM, MCH at Delhi University.
She has been instrumental in setting up pulmonary, neurophysiology, autonomic function laboratories and "Yoga, Naturopathy and Life Style intervention clinic" under AYUSH in the Department of Physiology at Lady Hardinge Medical College, wherein a number of patients from hospitals are being benefitted. She was Chairperson/ co chairperson/ member of a number of committees of the Institution, Finance Secretary "Diamond Jubilee Foundation" welfare fund for students of LHMC and additional warden of undergraduate hostel. She had been President of LHMC Alumni Association 2015-2017.
During her service career she has been nominated as a member of Committee by MOHFW for appraisal of various government medical colleges for upgradation to AIIMS like Institute under PMSSY; appointed as Inspecting officer for increase in PG seats in preclinical and para-clinical subjects at VMMC Safderjung Hospital New Delhi, member Task Force Committee and Comprehensive Redevelopment Plan of Lady Hardinge Medical College. She was nominated as MCI Inspector for carrying out Inspection in various medical colleges for the MBBS and MD (Physiology) courses.
She has the unique distinction of being honored with following prestigious awards viz: WHO fellowship in "Epidemiology and Biostatistics" in 2002 at Bangkok, Thailand nominated by MOHFW; "Fellow of world Association of Integrated Medicine", an organization for Global establishment of Integrated Medicine in 2003 for academic excellence; "Dr Archika Foundation award" by Shri Shakti Manch , a women empowerment organization in 2003; "Shri Satya Paul Sabherwal award" for excellent contribution towards LHMC Alumni Association in 2004; "Health Education and Development award" at the Health Summit 2010 , on occasion of World Health Day and World Congress on Drugless Therapies; "Life time achievement award" in recognition to distinguished services to Lady Hardinge Medical College as an outstanding meritorious teacher and a dedicated doctor in 2017.
